BiteHunt is an early pilot that suggests packaged foods that fit what you ask for and the profile you set up. This policy explains what we collect, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Questions: lunou@bitehunt.app.
| Data | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Profile, for each person you add: nickname, age band, allergies, diet, foods to leave out. For the household: nut-free need, "may contain" setting, favorite flavors, foods that are a hard no, preferred store | You, in the profile form | To filter and rank suggestions |
| Searches you type, how the app read them, and which products it showed | Your use of the app | To improve the app and the catalog during the pilot |
| "Liked it", "Didn't like it", "Save to try", and notes you send ("not what I wanted", "report a problem") | You | To improve rankings for you, and fix wrong product information |
| A random anonymous ID for your browser, the invite code in your link, and the date of the catalog you used | Created by the app | To keep your data separate from everyone else's |
| Email address, who you shop for, and whether you want to join the pilot | The sign-up form on the home page | To contact you about BiteHunt |
| Email address, and the plan or store you were interested in | "Tell me" forms in the app (BiteHunt Plus, stores not covered yet) | To tell you when that feature or store is available |
| Email address and which situation describes you (for example "diagnosed in the last 3 months") | The "Help shape BiteHunt" form | To invite you to a feedback call |
| Answers to a short feedback survey | The survey shown to people who have used BiteHunt on more than one day | To improve BiteHunt |
| That you shared a list (not who you shared it with) | The "Share this list" button | To see whether lists get shared. A shared link contains the search and the allergies, diet and "leave out" choices it was checked for, never names |
| Clicks on features that aren't built yet (for example a BiteHunt Plus price) | Your use of the app | To decide what to build next |
Your profile and history are also kept in your browser's storage on your device.
Some of what you enter can be "consumer health data" under laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act: allergies, diet, foods to avoid, and age band, and searches or notes that mention them.
| Provider | What it does | What it sees |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Firestore, Hosting, Authentication, App Check) | Stores profiles and history, serves the site, issues the anonymous ID, checks requests come from the real site | Everything listed above |
| Google Gemini, through Firebase AI Logic | Reads a search the app's own rules can't understand and turns it into search filters | The text of that search only. Not your profile. |
| Google reCAPTCHA | Part of App Check; helps tell people from bots | Technical information about your browser, under Google's privacy policy |
| Kroger (product images) | Product photos are loaded from Kroger's website | That your browser loaded the image, as with any website |
Data is stored in the United States.
Until you delete it, or until the pilot ends. When the pilot ends we will delete pilot profiles and history within 90 days, or tell you beforehand if we want to keep anything, and why. Sign-up emails are kept until you ask us to remove them.
In the app, open "Edit profile" and choose "Delete my data". This deletes your profile, your searches, your feedback, notes and "Tell me" emails from our database, and clears them from your browser, straight away. To remove a sign-up email, email lunou@bitehunt.app.
BiteHunt is meant to be used by adults, including adults shopping for children. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Each browser can read and change only its own profile and history. No system is perfectly secure; please don't put anything in a nickname or note that you wouldn't want stored.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and ask for your consent again before using health data in a new way.
